Decide first how far you want to go. A pair of red and white stockings is enough to create the effect on an outfit you already own, for about ten euros. A complete set — bra, thong, self-supporting stockings — costs two to three times more but will only come out once a year. That’s the calculation to make before even looking at the models.
Material decides the lifespan. The white faux fur trimming most of these pieces sheds when washed and handles the dryer badly: hand washing is the rule. Fishnet and lace age better, but dress you up less.
Look closely at sizing, since this category is often given as a gift. Models with adjustable straps and stretch cuts forgive mistakes; a bodysuit or fitted dress without elastane doesn’t.
Finally, plan ahead. Demand concentrates over a few weeks and common sizes sell out from mid-December.
