Denier measures the thickness of the yarn and determines everything else. Below 20 denier, tights are nearly transparent and run at the first snag: treat them as disposable. Between 20 and 40, you keep some sheerness with acceptable everyday durability. Above 60, you move into opaque territory, warmer and noticeably sturdier.
