In this category more than any other, the brand matters: a manufacturer that disappears takes its app down with it.

Always check that the device keeps some usable modes without a phone. A physical button giving access to a few intensity levels guarantees the toy stays functional the day the app stops being updated, or simply when the phone’s battery is dead.

Next, look into the data questions. These apps often require an account and sometimes access to the camera or microphone for certain features. Reading the privacy policy before buying isn’t excessive for this type of product.

The usual criteria still apply: quality silicone, IPX7 waterproofing, USB charging and noise level. A connected but noisy model loses all its appeal for discreet use.
